When Doktè Lik met her in 1957 while visiting Plaisance du Sud, he decided to leave his natal Morency (Cayes), stayed and married her. She inspired him to do what he would come to view as his mission – helping those in need. This first meant, treating his patients and letting them pay when they could. Then it extended to becoming a Pastor to tend to their souls because she was and still is a devout Christian. They built a first church, then another one, then another one … up to the 14 churches today that form the Bethel Mission.
Her Christian faith is the most important thing to Madan Dòk, our Honorary Chair. When she’s not busy at the mission, she can be found at the Foundation, cooking, managing, monitoring and generally keeping everyone and everything from falling apart.
